ID, I had forgotten about your #3 as well. I distinctly remember where I was that day--driving back to Albany after doing a couple of water company appraisals in Lewis County in NY (NE of 'Cuse), and imagining the look on Lou Pinella's face as the inning progressed . . .

I tend to think that this coming season might have some big ones against the Phillthies. At least, that's what I hope.

Nice list!

The May 29th implosion by Armando Benitez was among the last cuts in my top ten -- in fact he blew another game a few days before that if I'm not mistaken.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I forgot your #9 --- and I'm considering changing my post. The Shea crowd getting behind Delgado that day brought tears to my eyes (swear to god). That was easily one of the most amazing and touching moments in several years.

Your #3 is a good one too, and it was another one that almost made the cut. It was between that game and the Damion Easley heroics, in fact. And since I've been so hard on Easley all year, I felt I had to give him his due.

Hopefully others will post more memorables I missed. Happy New Year!

Great job, Joe! Thanks for fulfilling my New Year's wishes. Much appreciated. You are so true in looking back to that opening season series in St Louis that it looked like the Mets were on their way to romping through the NL in 2007. What went wrong? Oh wait, yeah that's right, Mota came back from suspension a shell of his former self and Willie Randolph forgot that his starter's could last longer in games than 6 innings. You know, if there's one thing I hope Church, Schneider, and Wise bring to the table is the desire to win. The ability to get up for the "meaningless" games. Because although the guys the Mets let go this offseason (Milledge, Lo Duca, Mota, Green, etc) may not have necesarily lacked desire to win, perhaps having been around a team that got so used to winning made them complacent. And these new guys, having never been to the playoffs before, may find it easier to want to win all the little games along the way. And that type of fire is contagious, which hopefully will infect guys like Delgado, Reyes, and Beltran in 2008. Like you said, Joe, anything to raise our optimism.

Here are my top 10 from 2007, counting down to most memorable:
10: (September 1) Mike Pelfrey gets his first win of the season by limiting the Braves in Atlanta to 1 run in 6 innings with 7 strikeouts.
9: (August 25) Mired in a season-long slump, Carlos Delgado gets a standing ovation before coming to bat with the bases loaded in a game at Shea against the Dodgers in an attempt to get him going. He comes through with a 2-run single as the Mets go on to win 4-3.
8: (August 21) After Billy Wagner allows the Padres to take a 6-5 lead in the 9th, the Mets come back to win it off Trevor Hoffman, capped by Luis Castillo's walk-off single.
7: (September 3) Pedro's return. He also notched career strikeout #3,000 in that game.
6: (April 24) Easley's 10th inning HR to tie; Endy Chavez' GW RBI-bunt single in the 12th scoring Shawn Green against the Rockies.
5: (August 5) Glavine's 300th win. phooey.
4: (May 29) Huge come-from-behind victory against the Giants at Shea in which Armando Benitez implodes, balking twice and then giving up a walk-off HR to Delgado. Mets win 5-4.
3: (May 17) Another come-from-behind win against the Cubs at Shea (which I've already caught as a Mets Classic game on SNY) in which the Mets score 5 times in the 9th as Ryan Dempster self destructs. Check out the starting lineup in that game, too. Chavez, Gotay, Green, Delgado, Franco, Newhan, Castro, Gomez, Vargas. Wow.
2: (April 1-4) Season opening sweep of defending World Series champion Cardinals in St Louis.
1: (September 29) John Maine's 14-strikeout masterpiece to keep the Mets playoff hopes alive against the Marlins.
