Trade Analysis: Ray Durham
Brewers get: Ray Durham
Giants get: Darren Ford and Steve Hammond
This deal happened more than a week ago, so you can argue that it’s not a “deadline deal”. We’ll give it a quick overview anyway.
A nice deal for both teams — the Brew Crew got the veteran righthanded bat they needed Billy Hall to be, and the Giants got two suspects who were considered prospects a year ago. That’s not to say Ford and Hammond are washed up. Rather, they have at least one more chance to prove they have MLB talent. Hammond is a 26-year-old righthander who has had trouble succeeding above AA, and has taken steps back the last two years. He’ll have to show something quick or become another Brandon Knight. Ford has also been regressing, but he’s only 22 and has big league speed. Carlos Gomez-like speed. Unfortunately, he’s not even as good as Anderson Hernandez with the bat. But who knows? I played against an all-speed, no-glove, no-hit guy named Eric Young, and now he’s on ESPN.
