On Murphy at First

manuel-ghandi-smIn today’s installment of “Manuel Being Manuel”, the effervescent manager of the Mets expressed his official support of the decision to position Danny Murphy at first base:

“I’m scared to death,” Manuel said. “If he can’t catch it out there, how’s he going to catch it in here?”

    Sorry to jack your thread here Joe-

    Big article about our old friend Bobby V in the Times today. Seems Chiba Lotte isn’t renewing his contract… just in time for a triumphant return to Queens?

    Murph’s going to be so relieved to be back in the infield, I predict he’ll be fine

    LOL — can’t say that I don’t feel the same way about Murph at 1st.

    I think it’ll be better, but by no means am I expecting him to take to it like a fish to water.

    Like everything else, there will be growing pains.

    As we know full-well, the mental game of baseball is what gets you a majority of the time.

    I just hope he gets to a comfortable place, that allows him to focus in the batter’s box……that’s really what he’s here for, after all.

    wohjr – is that really news? I thought the the non-renewal has been known about for a while. Either I’m having a deja vu or it’s a story being re-introduced because it’s finally relevant with Manuel on the hot seat.

    1. as matt Cerrone and Isuzu point out the Dodgers ARE the best team in baseball right now…we just played them in LA where they are 17-3 WITHOUT Cora, reyes, delgado…and dare i say Dr Ollie (vs Mr Ollie Hyde). We scored 6 runs total left 300 on base…yet were in every game…in fact gave them the first and last games.

    2. I like the cintron idea.

    3. Danny did great yesterday…..but his BAT was the culprit yesterday his 7 men left on base was the deciding factor. No doubt he will be OK tho. Interesting that his 1st base experiment;
    – a. makes him even more appealing in trade
    – b. opens another avenue for F-mart who has 7HR, a 280avg/340OBP/-800SLG at AAA…..in fact HE IS their offense.

    Joe-

    Its news to me, especially his devoted following over there, but I’ll defer to you
