Chris Young May Be Out for Year
Chris Young will be on the DL for much more than 15 days.
From The New York Times:
John Ricco, the Mets’ assistant general manager, said that Young retore the anterior capsule in his right shoulder, which he originally injured a year ago, and could miss the rest of the season. …
The 31-year-old Young was examined by Dr. David Altchek in Manhattan on Monday and was given a choice of trying to rehabilitate the shoulder, which was what he did last year, or having surgery. If he opts to have the shoulder surgically repaired, it will probably mean a 10-month recovery. …
The injury is the same one Johan Santana sustained last September, and Santana is not expected back until at least July.
MetsToday readers, of course, are not surprised by this news — we saw it coming in mid-April, when Angel Borrelli termed his biceps tendinitis ” … one of the worst warning signs a pitcher can have“.
You may want to go back and review what my and your expectations were when the Mets signed Young in January.
In any case, sad news for Mr. Young, as the possibility of him pitching this year appears bleak. At best he might be able to rehab and come back by August or September — but by then it will it matter for the Mets?
Chris Young = Pedro Astacio
Just meant it from a standpoint of a guy with well-known arm trouble, who could have been awesome for maybe a month or so — then disappear, due to the Mets having to skip his starts.
As we should all know very well by now, recovery from surgeries for torn labrums is no joke. Just ask Astacio, himself!
Young had the surgery in 2009, and will now be nursing a torn capsule, on top of it.
Good thing no one expected very much.
Just saying, very similar type of injury path. In all likelihood, they were hoping for a “crash and burn” kind of year from Young; provided he didn’t get healthier as the year progressed.
Turned around rather quickly on them.
