Reyes Activated; Gammons Predicts Prospect Haul

At a time of year when baseball’s contenders add pieces for a title run, the Mets added the league’s batting leader by activating Jose Reyes today. Disabled since July 3rd with a hamstring strain the Met shortstop is leading the league with a .354 Batting Average and 15 triples. He will be in the leadoff spot tonight. To make room for Reyes the Mets optioned Rueben Tejada back to Buffalo.

Peter Gammons appeared on today’s Mike Francesa show and predicted at “least one good prospect” coming back to the Mets in exchange for Carlos Beltran. Stay tuned!

A Mets fan since 1971, Dan spent many summer nights of his childhood watching the Mets on WOR Channel Nine, which his Allentown, PA cable company carried. Dan was present at Game 7 of the 1986 World Series and the Todd Pratt Walkoff Game in 1999. He is also the proud owner of two Shea Stadium seats. Professionally, Dan is a Marketing Manager in the Bulk Materials Handling industry. He lives in Bethlehem PA with his wife and son, neither of whom fully get his obsession with the Mets.

we gotta get a prospect… cant let beltran walk. Mets need to field offers from rivals as much as it hurts because i would rather see beltran in phillie colors then him being a free agent and the mets not getting anything

They are talking about Carlos being a Brave not a Philly. I don’t care where he goes. The good thing is the Mets will pickup his salary so we are guaranteed to get back a good prospect. We need all the prospects as possible. ALSO, the Giants GM changed his attitude about trading for players who will be free agents next year. They need a catcher and shortstop. Package Reyes and Paulino. However, we would need to get back at least 2 great prospects since we would get two 1st rounders next year if we don’t sign Reyes. It’s time for a fire sale! I just hope Reyes and Beltran don’t get hurt until they get traded. 🙂 I have tickets to Aug 11th Mets game and wouldn’t mind if I don’t see these guys there that day. I would be mad if we just get rid of them for nothing! METS in 2012!

99% these prospects turn out to be nothing, look at all the “prospects” that the mets have had over the years, generation K, Escabor, the outfield of the future milledge, gomez, martinez. None of them pan out. Your better off trying to resign major league talent. Let beltran come back cheap he isnt going to command a huge contract. Sign reyes fix the bullpen trade wright and pelfrey and you got a winner!

Your going to see a mass exodus after this home stand. The house cleaning will come on the road to limit any damage from the fan base

Who do you really think is going to get traded? Maybe Izzy, The Mets willingness to pay beltran the rest of the year proves they are really trading him if it makes sense for A top prospect, well there not going to get one for him which is fine. Who else can they really trade? I really wish the answer was Pelf
