Heyman: Tejada to DL

Well, it looks like the decision to keep Ruben Tejada on the major league roster or demote him to Triple-A just got a little easier.

Tejada injured his quad while sliding for a popup in the ninth inning of last night’s 9-4 victory over the Yankees.

Omar Quintanilla was pulled from last night’s Las Vegas 51s game, and will likely join the Mets today to replace Tejada on the roster.

It is my understanding that if they want to send him down again later on he would have to clear waivers. The team needs a bit more flexibility at SS in that department, even if the person they get is mediocre. Still, Omar has Cedeno like possibilities, so seems possible to leave him up.

You’re correct, they would have to put him on waivers. Also, he wasn’t on the 40-man, so they had to make a move. They just announced that Frank Francisco has been moved to the 60-day DL.

It will probably be Valdespin going down for Quentanilla. It might be better for Valdespin to just get more consistent at bats. Can’t understand how he never gets in the lineup. Every time I see Collin’s son Baxter playing, I want to throw up.

Looks like Niese is missing his next start with left shoulder tendinitis as well. Tejada could use a break. He hasn’t seemed very focused in the field.
