Mets Game 33: Win Over Dodgers

Mets 4 Dodgers 2

Justin time, Mr. Turner made a pinch-hitting appearance to drive in the game winning run.

Justin Turner ripped a pinch-hit, two-run single in the 8th — perhaps the longest single in Citi Field history — to score Jasons Bay and Pridie to give the Mets a victory over the Dodgers.

Who Will Pitch and Catch On Sunday?

Going by the regular order of the Mets’ 5-man starting rotation, it will be knuckleballer R.A. Dickey’s turn to take the mound for Sunday’s ballgame against the Dodgers. Generally speaking, Josh Thole has been R.A.’s unofficial personal catcher — so the battery would tentatively be Dickey and Thole. However, there is some discussion that could change before tomorrow.

Today’s Mets Lineup

Today’s Mets lineup vs. the Braves in Atlanta:

Jose Reyes – SS
Josh Thole – C
David Wright – 3B
Carlos Beltran – RF
Ike Davis – 1B
Angel Pagan – CF
Willie Harris – LF
Brad Emaus – 2B
Dillon Gee – P

Game time is 1:35 PM and will be broadcast in the New York-metro area on WPIX – WB 11.

This is the first big-league start of the Dillon Gee, the bulldog who showed some promise in September last year.

Note that Josh Thole is in the #2 hole and Willie Harris’ spot in the lineup keeps dropping — along with his batting average, as he’s 5 for his last 21. Also of note: baserunning blunder boy Dan Murphy sits while Brad Emaus starts at second base against righthander Tommy Hanson. Hanson actually was tougher on lefthanded hitters last year — holding them to a .226 AVG — but I think there is another reason for the decision to play Emaus over Murphy.

Pat Misch Will Report To Buffalo

According to Adam Rubin at ESPN-NY, Pat Misch has agreed to accept an assignment to AAA Buffalo.

Good move for Misch, I think, since his best shot at returning to the bigs is likely with the Mets. As much as I’d like to believe that Chris Young is going to stay healthy for more than 15 starts, it’s not a realistic expectation. Add in the uncertainty of Chris Capuano, who may or may not be fully recovered from TJ surgery. Plus, pitchers who appear healthy when they leave sunny Florida could suddenly feel soreness and other ailments in the cold, wet northeast April weather.

The one thing going against Misch is the fact that Dillon Gee has options, and therefore could be more likely to get a brief callup for a spot start.
