A day after it was reported that RHP Brett Myers was “asking for too much money,” Myers signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Indians.
The numbers have not yet been disclosed, and the contract is contingent upon Myers passing a physical, but we do know it also includes an option year.
Myers spent last year in the bullpen, splitting the year between the Astros and the White Sox, appearing in 70 games and saving 19. In the previous two seasons, however, he was a starter, making 33 starts in each of 2010 and 2011. He is expected to be in the Indians rotation in 2013.
Hmm … the Mets are definitely in the market for bullpen help, and they also could use another starter. Maybe they were just undecided about which role was best for Myers? Or perhaps he was, as reported, “asking for too much money.”
In any case, scratch him off the wish list.
There are certain depths my wishing will not stoop to. My list never had Myers on it.
If we must sign a wife beater, let it be k-rod.
