Mets narrowly avoid a final-series sweep at the hands of the Brewers, perhaps inspired by Mike Piazza, and finish with the exact same record as 2012: 74-88. This year, though, that’s good enough for third place in the NL East!

Going into the final two games of the season, the biggest Mets story may be Dillon Gee falling one frame short of 200 innings.
Per Gee’s regular throwing schedule, Sunday would be a “throw day” / bullpen session. Should he be given the ball for one inning against the Brewers in game 162 to achieve his goal?
Lucas Duda fails in his attempt to be the next Scott Hatteberg. Justin Turner succeeds as a cleanup hitter. However, the Mets lose.
Really? The Mets take two out of three from the Reds in Cincinnati, and then fall flat against the Brewers at home? Opposite week continues …
With the final road trip in the books (as it were), the Mets 2013 road record finishes at 41-40. This is significantly better than their home record, which stands at 32-45 with 4 games to play.
One obvious reason for this disparity would be park factor. While the Mets decided to shrink the dimensions of Citi Field prior to the 2012 season, it’s still not a band box. In fact, you can fit almost the entire field at Citizen’s Bank Park inside the fences of Citi Field:
Mets take a series from the Reds in Cincinnati — thanks to seven and two-third innings of shutout baseball by none other than Daisuke Matsuzaka. Who would’ve believed it? Is it opposite week?
I missed both of these games due to work activities. Shame, because finally we have meaningful games to watch in September. The Reds trying to win to grab a division title, the Mets trying to lose to grab a protected pick in next June’s draft. Please post your comments on either / both games below.
