Nothing inspires confidence in your mentally fragile sinker-ball pitcher like the sight of Murphy at 2nd
First off, agree with Gavin, the only ground-ball pitcher in the rotation and lets put our worst defensive second basemen behind him. Secondly, does TC really think that constantly changing where Pagan bats in the order is gonna help him out of this slump. Put him in a spot to utilize his skill set and let him work through it. Your not gonna take him out of the line up and since the mets have been nothing short of “stellar” with RISP lets put a struggling hitter behind the middle of the order and hope that not only will he have to get a hit but lets add the pressure of them hopefully being with RISP. Seriously, TC is driving me nuts, no wonder teams quit on him all the time.
Let’s hope this series goes better than the last.
1. Yesterday was a win in all but for the RF sub and lack of arms….which SHOULD have been addressed BEFORE yesterdays game.
2. Manny Acosta cleared waivers…..how, nonetheless he is a future call up. PERSONALLY I’d like to see Brad Holt converted to a reliever. I think Jeurys, Carson, Harvey possibly Gee are starters and Jenry 50/50.
As for the pessimism above; if not for Pelfrey and the overtaxed pen the mets easily could be 6-3 not 4-5.
If CB plays yesterday thats a win.
NEXT: Here’s a snippet from MLB rumors….
…There’s ‘growing suspicion’ that the Mets will look to trade veterans such as Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes and Francisco Rodriguez if they are not contending midseason. Plus, Mike Pelfrey could find himself on the block.
I think if HAIRSTON was in the OF in the 8th, he could have caught the ball. He isn’t actually doing much hitting (though his brother helped win Game 2) and he isn’t put in as a defensive replacement when the Mets have a lead in the 8th. This is more notable than your 12th pitcher blowing it when you toss him out there for a second inning.
So, put him in there. Resting CB to increase his trade value in July is fine when you have a credible alternative in that spot. It’s quite likely K-Rod will be gone too, since they don’t want to pay him that 17M and he has some trade value. Reyes is possible. Pelfrey? He’s expendable if they get a major part back, including a real reliever. Still, good to keep him as the #3 starter he is.
#3?
Watching this game is painful. I cringe every time Pelfrey curls his shoulders. Stand up straighter!
It’s painful all right. In all too many ways.
We gave up three runs because our pitchers can’t throw the ball from the mound to home plate..Is there any wonder why they are walking so many batters?Did anybody see the irony of Willie Harris losing a fly ball in the lights and costing us a huge run the minute he puts on a net uniform.THIS IS THE SAME WILLIES HARRIS WHO MAKES CATCHES GOING OVER WALLS AND DIVING ON HIS FACE WHEN HE IS PLAYING AGAINST US !!!!He would catch fly balls against us in a hurricane.Yet the minute he puts on the blue and orange……Why am i not surprised?
Gotta fix those relievers. Averaging 6 runs a night is great, but it doesn’t mean anything if the other guys average 7.
