This was an overall sloppy, lackadaisical game by the Mets. Maybe Wilpongate had nothing to do with it, but it sure was an incredible coincidence that their worst-played game of the year followed Fred Wilpon’s public tongue-lashing.

Holding the opposing team to two runs usually means you have a great chance to win — particularly when playing at a hitter-friendly park such as Citzens Bank. Unless, of course, you are facing Roy Halladay.

The Mets complete the sweep, dusting away the D-Backs in an Easter Sunday victory.

The game was actually a lot closer than the final score. The Mets were in it until the top of the 8th when Bobby Parnell balked with the bases loaded and then served up a two-run single to let the game get away.

Close, but no cigar.
The illusion drawn by Terry Collins is that if only one pitch or one hit in each game went differently, the team could easily be 9-2. First, I’m not sure I agree, and second, that is exactly the difference between winning teams and losing teams. When a team consistently fails to execute the small things, they will consistently be on the wrong end of the final score — and vice-versa. See the Braves of 1991-2005.
In any case, it was another sad loss for the Mets. So close, yet so far.

For a team whose offense is below par due to the loss of Jayson Werth and injury to Chase Utley, they sure score a lot of runs.
Roy Halladay was spectacular. Jon Niese was not. As a result, the final score was an unhappy one for Mets fans.
