Johan Santana struck out 13 batters in seven innings, but in the end it was Marlins starter Josh Johnson still standing as the victor of a good old-fashioned pitcher’s duel.
So much for going 162-0 … but at least the Mets won the series. It was not a good day for Oliver Perez, and he certainly was most to blame for the loss — but if you read on you’ll find out that Ramon Castro could have prevented the four-run fifth.
Since October of last year, excuse after excuse has been piled on explaining why the Mets can’t, or won’t, sign Pudge Rodriguez. At the least, let’s put the myths to rest.
