Joe Janish began MetsToday in 2005 to provide the unique perspective of a high-level player and coach -- he earned NCAA D-1 All-American honors as a catcher and coached several players who went on to play pro ball. As a result his posts often include mechanical evaluations, scout-like analysis, and opinions that go beyond the numbers. 1. Those of you still mentioning Carl Crawford in trade proposals involving the Mets should probably stop, because it’s pretty clear Crawford ain’t going anywhere.
    2. I’m with Blue and Orange all the way. I do not want anything to do with Bengie Molina. Josh Thole should be getting groomed and promoted as the catcher of the future, and adding anyone who will block his path due to an exorbitant, longterm contract would be self-destructive, especially if that someone is a 35 year old sloth who never walks and has declining defensive skills. If anything, now might be the time to check into Ivan Rodriguez, and see if he’d be willing to share 2010 duties with Omir Santos. He’s be inexpensive, he’d provide good leadership, and he’s proven that he can handle the bat and glove.
