For a team whose offense is below par due to the loss of Jayson Werth and injury to Chase Utley, they sure score a lot of runs.
Roy Halladay was spectacular. Jon Niese was not. As a result, the final score was an unhappy one for Mets fans.

The Mets’ second-place position in the standings was short — maybe 30 hours or so — but it was enjoyable. And the team still is only a game out of first, despite falling to third place as a result of the Braves’ 2-1 win over the Brewers on Monday. Optimism is high after the first three games of the season: Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes are healthy, the team is hitting, the team is pitching, the defense has been nearly flawless. It’s good times all around for Mets fans.
And just when we were starting to ride a smidgen of momentum, here come the Philliies.
Adam Rubin is reporting that Luis Castillo has been released by the Phillies. Good to know; in case Brad Emaus flops there is an experienced veteran second sacker out there who the Mets can pick up for the league minimum. Oh, wait …
If the tweets of Adam Rubin and Steve Popper are any indication, Jason Isringhausen has yet to decide whether or not to accept the Mets’ “offer” of staying in warm and sunny Florida to further build up his arm.
Considering that Brad Lidge will be out for 3-6 weeks with a shoulder issue, one must wonder if the Phillies would be interested in adding Izzy to the back of their bullpen.
In case you are just crawling out from under your rock, Luis Castillo was released by the Mets on Friday afternoon. Soon after, Mets fans were dancing in the streets.
What I don’t get is why Castillo hung around this long. Further, why he was asked to report to Port St. Lucie in the first place, taking reps and at-bats from Brad Emaus, Dan Murphy, and Justin Turner. Further,why was Castillo the one dismissed from auditions first?
