Tuesday Afternoon Mets Links (Blake Forsythe Edition)

ESPN New York – As previously posted, Brooklyn Cyclones manager Wally Backman is a popular guy with his former players.

Mets Minor League Blog – Toby Hyde has a running thread to cover day two of the amateur draft. With the #89 pick, the Mets have selected University of Tennessee catcher Blake Forsythe.

ESPN – Karl Ravech thinks the NL East is MLB’s future “power division,” based on money and the media. By that rationale, the Mets should be on their way to facing the Yankees in this fall’s World Series for the 19th time in 20 years. Let’s go Mets! [via MetsBlog]

Daily News – It sounds like MLB is still taking this “Ollie Perez is injured” gag a little too seriously. Lighten up, guys!

CBS Sports – A preview of the Mets-Padres series that starts tonight. Check back here at MetsToday at about 5pm for the Gameday Open Thread.

And here’s video of the Mets 3rd round pick Blake Forsythe hitting for Team USA vs. Guatemala on July 4. 2009:

He's a questionable prospect from what I have read. Good eye and power, but he doesn't seem to hit for average and strikes out a ton. I have not read anything on his defense. I wonder if he can defend well and if so this pick changes to a good pick. But I'm having my doubts.

Doesnt look like he uses his legs to generate power at all when he hits.

Funny you should say that. I had the exact same thought. I'm a novice when it comes to looking at film of hitters and if I saw that and you saw that then it has to be a problem, no?
