Wally Watch: Backman’s Cyclones Win, Still in First Place

As the Mets continue their early swan dive, Wally Backman continues to win in the New York Penn League. Last night, Backman’s Cyclones beat the Lowell Spinners by a score of 7-2. The Cyclones have won eight of their last ten games and sit 3.5 games ahead of the Staten Island Yankees in first place.

If you’re in Brooklyn tonight, stop by MCU Park for “Jersey? Sure! Night,” which “pays homage” to the Jersey Shore TV show. Should be interesting… Click here for more info.

Doesn’t Wally also have superior talent because the Mets are usually determined to put a winning team on the field for the Cyclones? Not saying he doesn’t have an impact, but lets see him follow some of these players up the system and see if they keep winning.

Cory Vaughn may be beating up on weak pitching, but the dude leads that league in HRs. He seems like a prospect to me, despite what scouts are saying. Numbers are numbers in my book just like winning is winning.

Aren’t the Mets determined to put a winning team on the field at the MLB level? Why not give Wally a shot? He can win with talent or he can manufacture runs/wins.

  3. James K. says:

Mike is right — check the ages of the players on the Cyclones compared to their competition. Keep Backman in player development, isn’t that supposedly his specialty? Backman as MLB manager is a joke.

  4. Derek says:

Look at his home/away splits and he is made to be the Mets manager.
