Cubs Sign Carlos Pena

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs have signed slugging first baseman Carlos Pena to a one-year, $10M contract.

Since the Cubs are struggling to stay under a tight budget, the signing could spark them to make a salary dump deal, possibly involving Kosuke Fukudome or Tom Gorzelanny.

Good to see that the tough economic times have not had a severe impact on Mr. Pena’s bank account.

    $10MM…..woof.

If healthy, I’ll bet Carlos launches 30 plus balls into Wrigleyville.

But will he crack the Mendoza line…..

I think this has the potential to turn-around quickly for Pena, playing in a very favorable home ballpark for hitters…..but really, $10MM is no drop in the bucket.

    That’s alotta dough.
