Blog Roundup: Helicopter Fans

In this day and age of the new media, your favorite ballclub can’t do anything without it being scrutinized.  The fans and the media jumped on Jeff Wilpon, Sandy Alderson, John Ricco, and Terry Collins for taking a helicopter to Miami to watch Jeremy Lin and the Knicks play the Heat.  Perhaps it’s not unworthy of scrutiny considering how deep in the hole that Mets are.  But it’s probably a story that will eventually blow away like so much prop wash.

Time for some Blogsanity:

  • WFAN’s Eddie Coleman took video of the affronting aircraft.
  • Mets cetera comments on what Choppergate means to the struggling team’s image.
  • Metsblog, meanwhile, has a new picture of the construction of the new fence in right-center field at Citi.
  • Adam Rubin reports that the judge presiding over the $386 million clawback lawsuit against Wilpon n’ Family tossed 3 witnesses: one of whom was named John Maine (Not THAT John Maine).
  • MMO profiles infield prospect Danny Muno.
  • Daily Stache begins an early campaign to vote Ike Davis into the All-Star Game.

Check Mets Today early and often for all-star coverage of the Mets.

That presupposes Ike Davis is healthy — don’t worry about that mention of a doctor’s visit. Daniel Murphy was All Star worthy with his bat last year but the choice very well might be fan favorite R.A. Dickey. With the usual late cancellations and disqualifications because of end of the half pitching or injuries, he very well might be a choice if Wright doesn’t have a pre-trade return to form.

best thing i heard all day….

collins gonna have a sit down with tejada for not coming to camp ealry…

gotta nip this kids attitude in the bud…your taking over for jose reyes…yet u dont think its a good idea to get to camp early….and we wonder why mets havent won…players attitudes are awful.

It is good to know that collins has reverted to the form that served him so well in his earlier tenures as bad manager, and feels the need to deride this kid in the press so the NY fan base can start hatin on him real fast., NOT…..

If i had to play the middle with Murphy next to me for 162 games, i would never show up.Have you ever seen Murohy trying to turn a double play?

      That’s a valid point, Gary.

but seasoned veterans cedeno and backup SS #3 are also NOT in camp missing an opp to surplant Tejada. Do they have VISA issues?
    • Joe Janish February 25, 2012 at 2:36 pm
I think Quintanilla is from Texas, so he shouldn’t have a visa issue. Though I could be wrong.

Now that you bring it up, it’s too bad for those two guys that they’re not in camp — they could have curried favor with Collins and gotten a jump on Tejada.
