Surely someone else has covered this, but I’ll post it here for inquiring minds.
Currently, the total amount of salary on the Mets’ disabled list totals $67,675,000.00.
To put that in perspective, it’s about equal to the entire payroll of the Minnesota Twins, and more than the total payrolls of the Rays, Athletics, Nationals, Pirates, Padres, and Marlins.
An itemized report of the Wilpons’ spending for the injured:
Carlos Beltran – $18.5M
Carlos Delgado – $12M
Oliver Perez – $12M
Billy Wagner – $10.5M
Jose Reyes – $5.75M
J.J. Putz – $5M
John Maine – $2.6M
Ramon Martinez – $750K
Angel Pagan – $575K

It is really crazy the way this season has turned out with these injuries, actually its downright scary.
We should build a bubble around David Wright as he is the only core player out there busting his, and we all know that he will suck it up and play no matter what’s about to break or snap.
Say what you want about clutch and strikeouts, this guy has been a rock solid pillar for his teammates during these injury filled weeks.
The salaries are out of control, especially with Delgado getting his extension and Perez getting his lucrative contract after yet another Boras dominant winter negotation.
I do think there should be performance based contracts, if for no other reason than to cut back on salaries for players on the DL more than they play during a season.
It’s specious accounting. You have to prorate the salary for the time the player actually misses.
Still. No getting around the fact the Mets have been brutalized by injuries.

Billy Wagner getting $10 million to pitch in late August and September is not even close to worth it, and when you consider that he won’t be used as a closer unless the unthinkable happens to K-Rod, its a waste, we all know how he feels about even trying to get 4 outs.

Wendy, before ST, Wags went on record saying that he “would love to set up for” K-Rod. If he gets four or five holds for Frankie Rodriguez, expect a few teams to be blazing trails to his door. Wags wants a WS ring, just like his friend Brad Lidge has. The Mets, if he gets back, are the nearest path to the WS.
yeah, and what about the guys that are still playing? the mets still have the best 3B, SP and RP in the game. and some decent players besides that. they should be in first place regardless. the phillies have been playing terribly and have had their own share of injuries.
