Happy birthday today to Roy Lee Jackson.
One of my earliest memories of visiting Shea Stadium was in 1980, with Roy Lee Jackson starting the game for the Mets. I think it might have been an Old Timer’s Day, but can’t remember for sure. In any case, I remember Roy Lee striking out 7 or 8 batters in the first four innings, then leaving not long after, and the Mets lost. That was the way things went back then.
Other birthdays today: Ray Searage, Charlie O’Brien, Armando Reynoso, and Joe Hietpas.
