Mets Game 85: Win Over Dodgers

Thanks to a two-game winning streak, the Mets surge back over the .500 mark with a win on the West Coast.

Mets Game Notes

Who needs Jose Reyes when you have Angel Pagan in the leadoff spot and Ruben Tejada playing shortstop? The two combined for four hits, three runs, and an RBI.

Chris Capuano gave his usual above-average six innings, but Bobby Parnell produced an unusually spotless two frames to bridge the gap to Frankie Rodriguez, who earned his 21st save and 32nd finish (23 more to go for the pot of gold).

Next Mets Game

The Mets and Dodgers do it again at 10:10 PM EST on Tuesday night. Mike Pelfrey pitches for the Mets and Ted Lilly is scheduled to go for the Dodgers.

    Not bad after spotting the Dodgers five innings.

    Turner got hit again in a key spot. Ho hum.

    I count two games so far in the current streak: Win v. Yankees, July 3. Win v. Dodgers, July 4. What am I missing?

      You count the exhibition games against the AL teams?

        You mean the exhibition games that count in the standings? Yeah, he’s counting those. I guess all those other sports that play inter-conference games shouldn’t count those either. What makes baseball so damn special?

    This was a fun game to appreciate for the little things. For example after Ruben Tejada broke up the no hit bid with a clean single, Chris Capuano popped up his first bunt attempt (after taking ball one) behind home plate. The catcher correctly (per Ron Darling) jumped out in front of the plate on contact only to find himself unable to make a diving stab at the ball before it fell to the earth. Capuano gets the bunt down on the next pitch (and deserves credit for that, the De La Rosa kid was throwing mid-90s) and it’s a runner on second with one out instead of stuck at first. Maybe Loney is playing a little closer to the bag to hold on Tejada when Pagan hits his screamer up the line and instead of a run-scoring double it is a 3-6-3 double play.
