You have less than one month to help build a ballpark in Ireland.
Wait? Baseball in Ireland? Who plays baseball in Ireland?
Plenty of folks — haven’t you ever seen the indie film Emerald Diamond?
If not, trust me — baseball is being played in Ireland, by kids and adults of all ages. Here’s the problem, though — there aren’t many baseball fields in Ireland. In fact, they don’t even have a proper ballpark. Games and practices occur on makeshift diamonds laid out on poorly maintained soccer and rugby fields. The Irish National Team doesn’t even have a home stadium dedicated to baseball.
So, Baseball Ireland, the Ashbourne Baseball Club and The Baseball United Foundation are teaming up to raise money to build a ballpark in County Meath, Ireland. The facility will be the first of its kind in Ireland and it will help to further grow the game in Ireland.
I know there are many charities and causes to which you can donate money. For this one, though, you can donate as little as $1 and be part of something historic. Give as much as $50 and you can be the first kid on your block wearing an official National Irish Baseball Team cap (a twenty spot gets you the aforementioned Emerald Diamond DVD).
Go to the Field O Dreams website for the whole story, and to donate. The goal is to reach a goal of $20,000 by St. Patrick’s Day, so make your donation today — and tell 100 of your friends to do the same.
What would be better then a perfect Guiness and the perfect game?
