It’s close to 1:30 a.m. and I’m just getting home from a day on airplanes. In other words, I missed the game. And since I have to be at work in the morning, I’m not watching the replay. So, please post your notes in the comments and get the discussion going. Many thanks!
Next Mets Game
Game 2 of this four-game series begins at 7:10 p.m. on Friday night. The pitching matchup is Shaun Marcum vs. Wandy Rodriguez.
It just goes to show you that you cannot pitch to Mike Baxter in the 9th inning or later of a tie game with the winning run on base. It’s just simple baseball!
Nice to know that when Marlon Byrd, Bobby Parnell, and Mikey Baxter! are in action in the later innings the Mets have a good chance of winning.
I caught the last two innings. It so easy to route for Baxter. I don’t know how many people attended, but by the end it looked like a little league game with just the players’ families watching. This either pushes the Wilpons further out the door or further hurts our chances of payroll being added next year.
Lyons came in with the bases loaded, no one out, in the 6th and got out of it with a sacrifice fly. Along with a great catch by Lagares in the 9th, the Baxter at bat are the highlights. Gee gave you five one run ball against a struggling Pirates team. I guess this is promising.
The Pirates didn’t do their homework.
One out, man on second, bottom of the ninth, tie score. Baxter the pinch-hitter with Ike on deck.
I know Ike hit a double the last time up, but you have to walk Baxter. His track record as a pinch hitter is too good.
And it’s Ike on deck!
Besides, by walking Baxter you set up the double play.
Unless I’ve screwed up the details the Pirates showed bad judgement.
And Ike Davis’ double in the 7th off a lefty (hit the base of the wall in right center) was important for more than one reason. First, he drove in the temporary go ahead run with 2 outs in a key at bat, after sitting for the first 6 innings. Secondly, his stance and swing were COMPLETELY different. Short leg kick, stayed back, easy swinging motion, less movement…
I had pretty much given up on him, but that’s 2 nights in a row where he’s belted a well struck ball to deep center. If he can turn it on, maybe we can start scoring more than 2 runs a game. The pitching has stabilized somewhat, now we need the offense to pick it up.
Eric, stop hoping. You’re going to make us get excited if the offense picks up. Besides, Backman said Wheeler in two to three weeks.
