Mets 11 Phillies 3
Mets win the final game of their four-game set with Philadelphia to bring them right back where they started the series — a dozen games under .500.
Mets Game Notes
As I had to work during the day, I missed this landslide of a victory. From the boxscore, it appears that Eric Young, Jr., Daniel Murphy, and Andrew Brown all had great days at the top of the lineup, and Anthony Recker hit a homerun. Also, Carlos Torres‘ line looks wonderful. If I have any questions, it would be this: why in the world did it take four relievers to finish the final 2 1/3 innings / last 7 outs of a blowout? Maybe someone who watched the game can explain in the comments.
Next Mets Game
The Mets begin a series in Washington, D.C. with the Nationals on Friday night at 7:05 PM. Dillon Gee gets the draw against Jordan Zimmerman.
Situational pitcher to close the 7th — Germen struggled with a big lead so was taken out in the 8th / situational pitcher closed it. Hawkins in 9th to get work.
Happy Birthday Recker. He looks younger, but he is 30.
I’ve read that the Mets consider this September to be like spring training. It seems more like a spring season split team game with most of the starters left behind. And I fear all of 2014 will be spring training for 2015.
I’d like to think September is more of an audition for the purpose of off-season trades.
Obviously the season’s in the tank now; no need to check the standings. Just go to the New York Times and see they aren’t bothering to cover the games — even the home games.
Yesterday’s game “coverage” amounted to a line item in the “notes” section of a story about the 2014 Mets potentially having three players whose last name begins with a lower case “d.” And that’s what counts as news at this point.
The NYT baseball section is embarrassing. I read that the management believes sports is below them, a sad state for the paper of record.
I wonder whether it’s more valuable now to get a look at young guys who haven’t had a chance at MLB yet or play the Duda / Davis / Murphy group as much as possible and pray they do something to warrant another team trading anything of value for them.
Great question, Chris. Ironically, the less faith the Mets have in Davis/ DDada/Murphy the more they should be played to present them to others as trade bait. Or cut bait and play the rookies and assume the others have no trade value.
