Quiz for Yankees Fans
Any Yankees fans out there? If so, please look at the picture below and see if you can identify who it is:
Give up? It’s Jean Afterman, the “assistant to the GM” of the New York Yankees. Strange that you don’t know her … you mean, she doesn’t regularly make headlines, hang around the ballfield, undermine managers, whisper secrets to ballplayers, argue with Mo Rivera, publicly cuss out and berate other Yankees personnel, and provide injury information to the tabloids? Huh.
Well, I GUARANTEE she has never, and would never, rip off her shirt in front of a clubhouse full of AA ballplayers.
I thought Jean Afterman was a man, first of all, and she gets very little mention at all in the press, generally.
Second of all, and this is for Kenny, illiteracy has nothing to do with facial recognition – believe those tasks are handled by the different parts of that brain that you find yourself scooping back into your ear every morning, after hearing nine innings’ worth of how awesome Dan “The Irish Butcher” Murphy is.
Lastly, no, I do NOT play “Concentration” with picture cards of Yankee front office personnel, so, their faces are NOT ingrained to my memory.
Thanks for the enlightenment, Joe! You know I’m a big fan and your articles get tossed back and forth regularly on my humble blog.
1.) Illiterate Yankee fan logs on to MetsToday (presumably with the help of a literate friend)
2.) Illiterate Yankee fan notices a woman who looks like Suzyn Waldman on MetsToday(presumably most people wouldn’t know the face, just the shrill voice that cuts through a Sterling-induced nap during a Yankee broadcast).
3.)Illiterate Yankee fan is unable to read Joe’s words beneath the photo, relegating the poor fan to a lifetime of thinking he has just started at a Suzyn Waldman photo. Meanwhile, in cyberspace, Mets fans are reading all about Jean Afterman and Tony Bernazard and so on.
It really isn’t that complicated and it isn’t really that funny. For the latter I apologize. As for the former, you’re on your own.
Good day sirs. And Aftermans. Good day!
