The Big News: 10 Guesses

francesaIn case you missed it, Mike Francesa announced on his Monday radio show that he would, on Tuesday (today), be delivering news of a “major update” regarding the New York Mets.

Here are my top ten guesses at what that “major update” will be:

1. A second Shake Shack will be opened at Citi Field.

2. Moises Alou has been signed to a two-year, $20M contract.

3. Citi Field’s outfield fences will be pushed BACK another 35 feet all around.

4. Ticket prices will be slashed another .046% (on average).

5. Peter Gammons will replace Marty Noble as the beat writer.

6. “Dog Day” will be revived at Citi Field. There will also be a “Cat Day”, “Parakeet Day”, and “Tropical Fish Day”.

7. Beer will continue to be sold after the 7th inning at home games.

8. Joe Buck, Tim McCarver, and Joe Morgan will join SNY as the gameday announcers. Gary, Keith, and Ron will cover the Buffalo Bisons’ radio broadcasts.

9. Chico’s Bail Bonds will be the team’s primary sponsor, and the uniform colors changed to yellow and black.

10. The team will be moved to Brooklyn in 2011, and the name changed from “Mets” to “Codgers”. The aforementioned Alou signing will be announced shortly thereafter.

Anyone else with an idea? Post it below.

Joe Janish began MetsToday in 2005 to provide the unique perspective of a high-level player and coach -- he earned NCAA D-1 All-American honors as a catcher and coached several players who went on to play pro ball. As a result his posts often include mechanical evaluations, scout-like analysis, and opinions that go beyond the numbers. 11. After contractors have finished re-designing the layout of the bullpens so that the players can now see the field, Omar will proudly announce that he has addressed the bullpen issues.

That December 31st ticket-plan renewal deadline is FAST-approaching.

Met PR must be scrambling right now; and since they can’t hold a gun to any player’s head to sign with the team, I’m thinking the announcment may be:

“Come see our new freshly-painted ‘Offensive Orange’ stair-wells at Citi!! They’ll hurt your eyes so bad, you won’t have to watch what’s on the field!”

Wake me up when something good happens.

P.S. – Hope everyone had a nice Holiday with their families. All the best in 2010, fellas.

    13. The Mets are moving to Beirut to accomodate Jason Bay.

Unable to sign Jason Bay, the Mets obtain Chris Waters from Baltimore. Bay, Waters, what’s the difference?

While the cynicism is called for, this thread could go on until spring training. I’m hoping that it truly will be major news and that it will involve a trade with Kansas City: Maine and FMart for Meche and DeJesus. I’m also hoping that Castillo is moved to ?? and Kenndey is brought in to play 2B.

here’s my crystal ball for 2010 1)a casey stengel statue in the rotunda (wearing a brooklyn dodger uniform) 2) a tom seaver statue (wearing a cincy red uniform)3)psl’s for shake shack will be sold 4)the full 20 per cent discounted seats will be disclosed.every seat will have full obstructed views.5) alex cora will be the first inductee in the new mets hall of fame at citicavern 6)the bridge to shake shack will have ez pass lanes installed 7)an underwear bomb will be found in luis castillo’s luggage in spring he did when he dropped the popup vs the yankees, castillo will “man up” to the media the next day and will not be released or arrested.omar minaya will be quoted as saying it will help us sign middle eastern ballplayers 8) jeff wilpon will build a moat in front of the 415 foot sign in right center field..he will explain he was a big fan of robin hood movies as a kid.9)3 days after the moat is completed, jeff wilpon will disappear.. 2 weeks later david wright will be arrested as the prime suspect. 10) the wilpons will declare bankruptcy, the federal govt will bail out the mets, take over ownership and replace the jackie robinson videos in the rotunda with barack obama videos..happy new new year everybody..

Francesca announces that the Mets are a disaster and changes should come from the top on down.

To which Minaya holds a press conference and it goes something like this, “I had to kind of tell myself, “Wow, these things are coming out.” And I say this because coming from Mike Francesca, okay, and Mike, you gotta understand this, Mike, for the past couple of years, has lobby for a player development position. So when these things came out I was kind of a little bit, I had to think about it. And I was a little bit, you know, somewhat, kind of, we gotta find out about this.”

Tip o’ the cap to Francesa.

Bay is signed, pending a physical. Big Man delivers on his promise of big news.

Wow, you found some things that would maybe make me rethink my love for the Mets. I didn’t think that was possible!
    2, 5, 8, and obviously 10.
I was hoping it was that the Wilpon’s couldn’t take the pressure of owning the Mets anymore and were going to sell the team to some exorbitantly rich Mets fan who will bring in the best baseball minds and give them 170 mil to do whatever they want with. But I am a dreamer, huh?
