Your Feedback Counts
Over the past week or so we’ve been experimenting with some things here at MetsToday and I’d appreciate your feedback.
Specifically:
1. How do you like the new comment system? What in particular do you like / not like?
2. Did you appreciate the inclusion of videos in the posts last week? Would you like to see more videos included now and then (or on a daily basis), in the future?
3. There have been “game day open threads” posted for the past several days — an opportunity to converse with MetsToday readers during the game. Is this something that should be continued, and if so will you participate on occasion?
4. Do you find value in the “link dumps”? Would you like to see them on a regular basis?
5. Do you have any other requests or ideas on how I can improve your MetsToday experience?
Please post answers to any/all of the above in the comments section. I could’ve used an external survey site but that seemed too formal and complicated. Many thanks!
What i would like to see is an upcoming series preview the day before a new series starts (so for instance today we would get a preview of the upcoming phillies series, with probable starters and commentary on what we're looking at in the near future)
Really like the link dumps, keep those up, but maybe change the word dump? haha
Overall though you run a very good site, keep up the good work,.
I was having trouble getting the comments to email me, but I see now that there is a drop down menu below that I can subscribe to all comments. I'll see how this works because I found that part the best of the old system. It really helped me stay in conversations because I was getting emails. I'd rather not have to check the site on my own to get updates.
I liked the vids and would like to see more if they are good.
The gameday threads don't seem to foster much discussion, I'd rather join the ESPN chats but I haven't made it to one yet. That is my fault.
I am not a fan of link dumps. I prefer your blog to talk about the links more so than just a series of links, but I just never liked link dumps and I think I'm in the minority on that one. I think this is how I found MetsToday BTW from Metsblog, because so often I was finding myself here from there I just stayed here. Maybe there is something to that.
I'm not sure what @tweetthemets is talking about every comment being tweeted. Perhaps that is linked on your profile, which I bet you can turn off.
As for new things: an edit button might be nice if possible. Thanks Joe!

Edit- apparently there is an edit button. Thanks Joe!
I disabled it over the weekend. So you can still Tweet your own comments to your own Twitter account (there is a "Tweet this comment" checkbox on the bottom of the comment box that allows you to do so). But, comments will no longer show up in the @MetsToday Twitter stream.
Pros:
– I like the "reply" function, which enables commenters to keep a conversation amongst themselves.
– I like the new comment posting mechanism, which is faster and does away with entering those dopey Captcha words every time I want to submit a comment.
– I like the thumbs up and thumbs down options.
– I also like the "link dumps," as it gives us the chance to easily read what other bloggers are thinking and writing without having to google every Met-related blog. It doesn't have to be a daily thing, and there don't have to be 4 or 5 per post. Just as long as the links are relevant, interesting, and/or entertaining.
Cons:
– I'd really like to see the old comments come back. I like going back into old stories and seeing where some of us disagreed and determining who was right about things and who wasn't. I also like seeing if my opinions have stayed uniform throughout a season.
– Before, you used to be able to click on one of the links to a comment on the right-hand side of the screen and it would take you to that comment. Now it just takes you to the story. A minor flaw but I liked it better before.
I'm indifferent on the gameday threads. Usually those threads break down into either people giving a play-by-play, or opposing fans bickering and ranting off-subject. It's a fun idea in thought, but through my experiences I've never really seen a gameday thread provide any additional insight or enjoyment to a game or a blog.
The videos don't bother me, but I find them to be irrelevant to a topic or uninteresting most of the time. I prefer watching highlights, and mlb.com has that feature covered so I'm cool.
What I enjoy most about this blog are the topics that are chosen for discussion and analysis, and the interaction with other fans who appear to be just as passionate as I am. I've dabbled in quite a number of other Met blogs over the years, and none come close to the insight, sarcastic humor, and overall enjoyment of MetsToday. In fact, I could safely say that this blog has kept me interested in keeping track of this sorry team. I feel like I need to watch the games and keep pace with their decisions and transactions so I can continue to be a part of the conversation here. If this blog didn't exist, I probably would have stopped watching this team for a really long time by now.
'dude – as for the past comments, they will reappear eventually; we've had a technical issue and working on getting them back. They still exist, it's just a matter of flowing them through the new system.
Also we're looking in to a way to make the recent comments appear in the sidebar the way they used to; I'm sure there's a way to make it happen.
Oh and I apologize for keeping you interested in the Mets ! 🙂
tweethemets – Regarding the mass attack of tweets, as John mentioned we disabled that "feature" and it shouldn't be happening any more … sorry!
Tom – thanks for the suggestion; that's something that I've done sporadically in the past and now have a reason to do more regularly. Also you'll see on Tuesday another Q&A / "Inside Look" with a Phillies blogger, and that's sort of a preview.
Thanks again to all of you for the feedback. And if anyone has more to say, please comment below.
