June 19: Sunday Mets Links and Game 68 Open Thread

Note: Today’s links compiled by John Fitzgerald.

OnTheBlack – Kerel Cooper likes the 1-2 punch of Jose Reyes and Angel Pagan. How ya gonna argue with that?

ESPN New York – Ian O’Connor is proud of Jerry Manuel.

LoHud – One person who isn’t so proud of Jerry Manuel? Francisco Rodriguez. Frankie Ballgame isn’t a big fan of warming up several times a game. Doesn’t he know Jerry is a genius? Sheesh…

NY Daily News – Congressman Anthony Weiner is shining a light on the extra fees tacked on to tickets bought on the web. Among the worst offenders? The Mets and Yankees.

NY Times – Tyler Kepner says the Mets’ core has always been the solution, not the problem.

NY Post – Joel Sherman asked twelve “baseball men” who is a better pitcher – Mike Pelfrey or Phil Hughes. The results were unanimous. Click the link to find out who they chose.

Real Dirty Mets Blog – On Wednesday, the Mets will hold “Mets Fans Go Gaga for Wright” night. The first 20,000 fans will receive a “Make Wright #1 Foam Finger” in the hopes that the high school pep rally atmosphere will help Wright start in the All-Star Game. I was convinced this was a joke, but apparently it’s not. After the game, fans are invited to head to the Peach Pit for milk shakes. Be sure to wear your varsity jackets! (That part actually IS a joke).

TONIGHT’S GAME

The Mets (39-28) look to extend their winning streak to nine games against the Yankees (41-26). Mike Pelfrey (9-1, 2.39) gets the start for the Mets and he will be opposed by Phil Hughes (9-1, 3.11). Check out the scouting report on Hughes over at Long Live Shea Stadium.

Here is today’s lineup:

Jose Reyes – SS
Angel Pagan – CF
David Wright – 3B
Ike Davis – 1B
Jason Bay – LF
Chris Carter – DH

Reyes' HR was great. But it brings up something Gary Keith and Ron are talking about: the Yankees were angered by Reyes and the Mets' celebrations. NOT THIS AGAIN. I love Reyes' energy. It rubs off on everyone on the team (and apparently the other team too). If the Yankees need Jose Reyes to get them fired up they ain't no champions.

… AND THAT's TWO just now!

I think Pelfrey needs to do well today, because he seems like he might be entering a down phase on the year, lets hope his down phase is still excellent.
