“April 4, 2005: Signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent.”

I forgot he was part of that J.J. Putz trade. Nothing impressive here. His only “leader board” appearance according to Baseball Reference is he was 4th in the AL in 2011 for Errors Committed in CF.

Bad fielder, career .306 OBP, bats lefty, and two months older than Neiuwenhuis and den Dekker. Pass.

If they wanted a lefty speedster they should have jumped on Tony Campaña when he was DFA’d by the Cubs. The D’Backs grabbed him where he’ll be a defensive replacement and dedicated basestealer. In just 347 major league plate appearances he has 54 stolen bases. That is not a typo.

Still remember Carrera mysteriously entering into a Met ST game toward the end of camp, back in ’07 or ’08, without a name or number on his jersey — and going up over the fence to snare a HR back into the yard.

First thing jumping off the page was his defensive ability. Then he had that flukey year in Double-A where he won the batting title.

Not all that much since – though he does know how to swipe a bag……but he’s still only 25 and hasn’t had much of a Major League opportunity.

Could probably be someone’s 5th outfielder, which on the Mets translates to “legit burn”.

Without having seen him play in a few years, I’d just go with the Captain Obvious comparison of Endy Chavez.

…….far from an Endy loyalist, but the Mets could always do worse.

Apropos of nothing, I’m beyond curious to see what Cowgill shows up when the bell rings.

    Perfectly said, Reese.
