Scott Atchison Signs with Indians

Scott Atchison has agreed to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training with the Cleveland Indians.

Not a huge surprise that Atchison didn’t re-sign with the Mets, considering that close to a dozen youthful, inexpensive arms are competing for spots in the Flushing bullpen. A minor-league deal is a no-risk proposition, and if I’m the Mets, that’s the best I offer Atchison, but if I’m Atchison, I’m taking such an offer from the Indians — who have a better chance of seeing the postseason in 2014 — than the Mets.

What is your reaction? Do you care one way or another that Atchison signed elsewhere? Post your notes in the comments.

Dear Scott, I will remember that you had pretty good location… “keep you off balance” stuff more than “strike you out” stuff… you wore number 50, and looked 50 years old… and that you somehow aren’t yet an MLB free agent, entering your age 38 season, despite debuting in 2004.

I will remember all these things… at least until spring training starts.

Argon, one more thing: He could not be used in consecutive games because of his lack of health (elbow).
