Big News On Hot Stove

The big news simmering on the Hot Stove right now is a) where will Masahiro Tanaka wind up; and b) the Padres are shopping utility infielder Logan Forsythe.

Quite a contrast, eh?

Which story do you find more intriguing, and why?

I’m interested in The Forsythe Saga, mainly because I can’t resist a good pun.

Moved to those multi-position-player-loving Rays. Looks like a great deal for them if Torres was a fluke. Looks like Pads are betting he was the real deal. I wonder if they’ll leave him in the bullpen?

As for Tanaka, I’m sad to see the Yanks improve, but I’d say there’s a substantial chance that throwing $155 mil at a guy who’s never thrown an MLB pitch will come back to bite them. 5 years ago, as a strike-thrower without an elite fastball, I’d have expected Tanaka to get hammered in the AL East. But offense isn’t what it was 5 years ago…

My sources say the Mets offered Tanaka the identical 7 year/$155 million deal that the Yankees did but Tanaka (after consulting with Mike Hampton) ultimately choose the Yankees because of the better school systems. Oh so close!
