Mets Game 75: Win Over Marlins

Mets 4 Marlins 0

Jacob deGrom finally earns his first Major League win.

Mets Game Notes

And boy did he earn it — he shut out the Fish through seven, allowing 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 7. In this particular game, he was very good (but still not outstanding — sorry Bob Ojeda).

Lucas Duda hit his 10th homer of the season, a prodigious blast. Did you realize the Mets had no one with at least ten homers until then? Ironic, isn’t it, that Sandy Alderson has gone out of his way to acquire players who supposedly can hit homeruns, and build a roster around the long ball?

Joe Janish began MetsToday in 2005 to provide the unique perspective of a high-level player and coach -- he earned NCAA D-1 All-American honors as a catcher and coached several players who went on to play pro ball. As a result his posts often include mechanical evaluations, scout-like analysis, and opinions that go beyond the numbers. Josh Byrnes just fired as Padres GM and Omar Minaya and others will assume role until a permanent replacement is named.

With Granderson at 9 HR’s and Duda now into double-digits, I’d say there’s at least a “better” chance of someone hitting my arbitrary mark of 12 HR’s by the ASB.

I’d been touting that I’d be shocked to see a Met with that many before the 1st half concluded.

    …………color me blue and orange.

When was the last time you heard of something other then a homerun described as “prodigious”?
