If the weather doesn’t interfere, this will be the lineup the Mets send out to face Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants:
Jose Reyes SS
Dan Murphy 2B
David Wright 3B
Carlos Beltran RF
Ike Davis 1B
Ronny Paulino C
Willie Harris LF
Jason Pridie CF
Chris Capuano P
Jason Bay is still out on paternity leave. That’s a sentence I never thought I’d ever type when I started this blog in 2005. Mildly surprising to see Paulino in there after Josh Thole’s three-hit day.
Beato is out now. Well, sure.
So this getting quite stark. The mets look very different when nikeas or paulino catches.
As for Beato and mejia …how ironic that liriano pitches a no hitter after returning from surgery. I hope this means Beato and Henry will be fine long term.
Weighing in on Reyes. I love the guy. His loss would be huge but it will and must happen one day. Frankly the mets could gain 5 or 6 players. Pagan is one who then goes to his best position leading off, Tejada is just fine defensively, and the influx of a high caliber arm ala Sanchez or wheeler would be stellar.
I would sweeten it up and add pelfrey in return for Sanchez wheeler and a prospect….(wishful thinking).
Why “must” Reyes go? Because ownership is broke? Why can’t the Wilpons go and Reyes stay?
It is not realistic to think that Reyes will fetch “5 or 6 players”. The Mets will be LUCKY to get one sure-fire prospect. And the only way they get that much is if they trade Reyes within the next 2-3 weeks. After June Reyes becomes a “rental” and it’s unlikely the Mets get much in the way of real prospects.
