Wow, I almost went through an entire spring training without suggesting that the Mets consider Manny Ramirez. That was a close one!
Thanks to “argonbunnies” for the annual reminder, via this comment:

March 27, 2013 at 11:25 pmSince none of the OF discussions appear to be active, I’ll say this here:
If we were going to give time to a veteran RH OF who isn’t part of out future, why not Vladimir Guerrero or Manny Ramirez? If the team’s gonna do something dumb, it might as well at least be entertaining.
Arguments for or against? Sound off in the comments.
As a “Rusty Staub” like pinch hitter with no position? What did he hit like on the A’s two years ago?
While the concept, Gus, is accurate, the idea of Rusty Staub, who learned French while in Montreal, owned fine restaurants, and runs many charities being compared to Manny made me throw up in my mouth a little. But still, I get your point.
Yeah, sure. He can’t play anymore, but we can use some more veteran “presence”. Think of what a great influence Manny would be Valdespin and the other kids*.

Yeah, never mind. Getting Vlad to help instill good plate discipline would be way better.
Actually, hey, on the subject of patience, Bonds doesn’t turn 49 until late July. Should have another 100 walks in him.
Just kidding. I don’t think Bonds wants to play. Jose Canseco, on the other hand… that guy’s always desperate for whatever love he can get.
Can Rickey unretire and be the first inducted Hall of Famer to take the field for us?
Man, Alderson really missed the boat on his OF options…
You know, I’m actively avoiding purchasing Mets tickets this year. BUT, if they put Rickey in LF and Canseco in RF for a game — THAT I’d pay to see. Not joking even a little bit; that would be intriguing entertainment.
