Beltran to Boston?

The buzz from the Boston Herald is that the Red Sox might consider calling the Mets about Carlos Beltran this winter, in the event that Jason Bay is not re-signed.

(Hat tip to Ed at MetsFever)

Note I stated “buzz” — not “rumor”, nor “report”. It’s pure speculation by the Herald’s columnist Michael Silverman. Still, I am curious as to what you the Mets fan thinks of such an idea.

Would you consider trading Carlos Beltran to the Red Sox? If so, what would you need to get in return? If not, why not?

Doesn’t Beltran have a full no-trade clause. Plus all of his Latino brethren. He’s not going anywhere.

If he did, I start w/ an arm (Bucholz please).

He does have a no-trade, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t waive it.

I’d need an arm and an OF (Ellsbury?) as well, at minimum.

Definitely worth considering as the Mets really need to restructure this team and they seem more boxed-in than I can ever remember. Unfortunately, if I consider what the Mets got for Wagner, I fear the worst. Maybe the BSox would take Wilpon, Minaya and Manuel and another AAAA player to be named?

I think Jacob Ellsbury and John Lester would do it, though who knows if Boston would ever go for such a thing.

Beltran’s no-trade clause is unlikely to be an issue in a trade with Boston. I’m sure he’d prefer to go to a contender.

I would want Ellsbury and Daniel Bard.

Ellsbury would logically be had in return but I’m not 100% on his role with the Mets in that case. Do they move Reyes to #3 like Manual wanted to and hit Ellsbury leadoff? Ellsbury and Buchholz or similar big SP in the organization works for me. I really don’t think this is too much to ask, Beltran is the best hitting CFer in baseball (honestly there aren’t many good ones anymore) and that brings tremendous value. Bard is a reliever now and I don’t want another big arm reliever until the rotation is solved

    Joe:

This is not new. I dont know the origin, but two rumors floated this yr including Reyes to Boston and Carlos to Boston. CB makes crystal clear sense in that the Bosox can afford the salary and ARE built to win now. The Mets are tenous at best.

I love CB. BUT his salary, F-Mart/Angel Pagan, and other needs of the organization have to be weighed.

HOWEVER: As opposed to the above trades I would think Dice-K moves to the Mets. I like dice and Michael Bowden.

Are the Mets rebuilding? If so, by all means sned him to Boston… Does Omar know how to rebuild? Do you trust Omar to rebuild? NOPE… dump Omar then rebuild with a guy who knows how to do it.

Harry, are you paying any attention to the stories that Jeff Wilpon is the man really in charge (of screwing up) the Mets, or are you purposely ignoring them?

I agree with Hrry. Who knows when the mets will contend again with this crew in the FO. One thing is sure, you trade someone before they start to slide down the other side of the hill. Beltran may already have.
