Down on the Farm: Binghamton

So my first day on the farm didn’t go as expected. Torrential rains delayed my pursuit of finding that gem in the weeds. So on Monday (for now), I am scheduled to have my first day as a farmhand.

So let’s dig up the interesting character named Matt den Dekker. A 5th round selection out of Florida in 2010, Den Dekker Continue reading

Blog Roundup: Reality Edition

With 8 weeks left in the regular season, reality is settling in like a haze around Citi Field.  After losing 5 in a row, the Mets appear to have finally run out of magic.

But what does the blogosphere think?:

  • Real Dirty Mets has a real dirty look at the problems that face Sandy Alderson
  • Faith and Fear wishes Jason Bay were as good at hitting home runs as he is at swatting hope out of the park.
  • Amazin’ Avenue has his weekly player performance meter.  Why are there so many red arrows?
  • Metstradamus talks about…well, never mind that.  I just LOVE this picture of Mike Pelfrey.
  • Mets 360 examines the Minayariffic signing of D.J. Carrasco by new GM, Sandy Alderson.
  • Tedquarters says Pelfrey’s recent quotes about the Mets were simply a reflection of reality.

As they say in baseball, hang with ’em.  And keep hangin’ at Mets Today.

According to Buster Olney, Mets pitcher Chris Capuano has cleared waivers and can be dealt to any team. Could the Mets get anything in return for him at this point? Continue reading

Mike Pelfrey: One Foot in Mouth, Other Out the Door?

A few days ago, Mike Pelfrey made the mistake of admitting the reality that we all knew since the beginning of spring training: that the Mets were unlikely to win the World Series in 2011. In case you missed the quote from the New York Post: Continue reading

Mets Game 120: Loss to Diamondbacks

Remember when the Mets were four games over .500? It wasn’t that long ago. Well now they’re four games under .500 for the first time since June 4th. Continue reading

Today’s Mets Lineup vs. Diamondbacks

Here is the lineup the Mets will send to the plate against Diamondbacks pitcher Jason Marquis:

Angel Pagan – CF
Justin Turner – 2B
David Wright – 3B
Lucas Duda – 1B
Jason Bay – LF
Josh Thole – C
Jason Pridie – RF
Ruben Tejada – SS
Chris Capuano – P

Justin Turner returns to the lineup after getting a much-needed rest. Jason Pridie also returns to the lineup for reasons that are unclear at this time. I guess Mike Baxter is more valuable as pinch-hitter than he is playing a full nine innings.

Down on the Farm: St. Lucie Mets

With summer closing and my second year of college approaching, I picked up another job. This job is on a farm. The description says I must weed and harvest. So I’ll do the same with the Mets, as I take a look “on the farm” at some of the Mets prospects (or weeds — it depends on your perception). Continue reading

Mets Game 119: Loss to Diamondbacks

Diamondbacks 6 Mets 4

There was a point early in this game when I thought the Mets had a genuine chance to win. They fought back from a two-run deficit to tie the game, then scored another pair to take a two-run lead. Then it all went bad, and the Mets couldn’t recover. Continue reading
