Tonight’s Mets Lineup vs. Diamondbacks

Here is the lineup the Mets will send to the plate against Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson:

Angel Pagan – CF
Willie Harris – 2B
David Wright – 3B
Lucas Duda – 1B
Jason Bay – LF
Ronny Paulino – C
Mike Baxter – RF
Ruben Tejada – SS
Mike Pelfrey – P

Queens native Mike Baxter makes another start in the outfield for the Mets.

Some other notes:

– The last time the Mets played the Diamondbacks was in April, in Flushing, and the Mets swept the Snakes in three straight.

– The Mets have lost three straight and are 3-9 over their last dozen games.

– The Mets are 33-28 on the road this year. They won only 32 games on the road during all of 2010.

– The Mets have won their last four straight road series. The last time they won five straight was 1999.

David Wright is hitting .341 (28-82) with 5 doubles, 3 HR, and 18 RBI in the 20 games since returning from the DL.

Jason Bay has reached base safely in his last 14 games and is batting .415 (22-53) with 11 runs scored, five doubles, three home
runs and 10 RBI since July 28. Too little, too late?

Mike Pelfrey has a 3.62 ERA in his last 12 starts.

Jason Isringhausen‘s next save will be #300. Two other relievers earned save #300 while wearing a Mets cap. Can you name them? Visit the MetsToday Facebook page to answer. Be sure to “like” the page while you’re there.

Tonight’s Mets Lineup vs. Diamondbacks

Here is the lineup the Mets will send to the plate against Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy. Kennedy is 14-3? How did that happen? I wonder if the Yankees wish they still had him rather than, say, Phil Hughes? Though, the guy they got in return — Curtis Granderson — is having an “OK” year.

But I digress. The lineup:

Angel Pagan – CF
Willie Harris – 2B
David Wright – 3B
Lucas Duda – 1B
Jason Bay – LF
Josh Thole – C
Jason Pridie – RF
Ruben Tejada – SS
Dillon Gee – P

Angel Pagan back in the leadoff spot after suffering back spasms. Jason Pridie gets a start in right field. I guess he and Mike Baxter will be part of a three-man platoon with Nick Evans?

Blog Roundup: Dog Days Edition

The dog days of August are here, and the grind of the season, as well as mounting adversity, seems to be taking its toll on the Mets.  But is it taking a toll on the blogosphere?

Let’s find out:

  • Daily Stache has his take on the final game of the Mets’ 3-6 home stand
  • LoHud Mets makes a case for trading Jason Bay to the White Sox for Jake Peavy.  Bonus: they can just give Peavy all of Bay’s old number 44 jerseys.
  • Paul’s Random Stuff hopes the Mets will introduce 50th anniversary baseball cards next year.  (Paul’s blog now has 40% more Herm Winningham)
  • Mets Police proposes a 50th anniversary logo design.
  • Legend of Cecilio Guante explores one of the most important tasks of a new parent: getting your kid to root for the right teams.
  • MetsBlog has blue jersey fever.  And so do the commenters.
  • Optimistic Mets Fan wants to see if F-Mart can contribute at the major league level this year.

The Mets are on the road tonight, so they have a good chance to win.  Read all about it on Mets Today.

There Are Still Playoff Hopes To Be Found — In Kingsport

As the New York Mets season all but came to a close this week with Daniel Murphy and Jose Reyes landing on the disabled list alongside their hobbled teammates, Johan Santana and Ike Davis, there still remains a case of optimism for the faithful. Outside of Flushing, there’s a pennant race brewing and the Kingsport Mets are right in the thick of it. Currently two games behind the Elizabethton Twins, the Rookie League Metropolitans affiliate is on a tear, winning six out of their last seven with one more game still to play against the lowly Pulaski Mariners.

Though Manager Frank Fultz has his team only Continue reading

Time for Dillon Gee To Make Adjustments?

In the game recap of his last start, I suggested that opposing teams may have developed an accurate scouting report on Dillon Gee. When he faces the Diamondbacks hitters tonight, it will be the second time they’ve seen him.

Will that be an advantage for Arizona?

It’s possible, and if so, it means it’s time for Gee to make adjustments. It also means that what we saw in the first half of the season was not necessarily a true picture of what we can expect from Gee going forward. At the same time, what we’re seeing right now is not necessarily a true picture, either.

Rather, we need to see how Gee reacts to the following:

– Comprehensive scouting reports on his tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses — which are being used against him

– Familiarity on the part of hitters, who have seen Gee before and are making adjustments to him

– The “dog days of summer”; i.e., the grueling, last leg of the season

Gee has only faced the Diamondbacks once before, so the familiarity issue may not be as significant as the scouting reports.

His next start after Arizona is most likely to be against San Diego, one of the teams he hasn’t yet faced, so he’ll still have somewhat of an element of mystery on his side. After that, though, the rest of his starts will be against teams he’s seen at least once before.

What do you think? Will Gee pitch better against teams he’s seen before, or will familiarity be an advantage for the hitters instead? Do you think the length of the MLB season will wear him down? Post your thoughts in the comments.

Padres 3 Mets 2

Instead of a series win, the Mets get a split with one of the weakest teams in the NL. In the process, they fall a game below the Flushing .500. Continue reading
