Curiously, Mets Re-Sign Tim Byrdak

Sometimes, good news comes early — such as in this case: the Mets have announced their first big free-agent signing of the offseason, by re-upping lefthanded one-out specialist Tim Byrdak.

To me this is curious news, for a few reasons. Continue reading

Mets Game 153: Win Over Braves

Mets 7 Braves 5

The Mets succeed in their starring role as spoilers, taking this weekend series from the Braves and simultaneously jumping into a tie with the Nationals for third place in the NL East. Continue reading

Carlos Beltran Still Leading the Mets

In the “Where They Were Now” department, I’d like to point out that Carlos Beltran — the switch-hitting outfielder who was traded away to San Francisco nearly two months ago — is still leading the Mets in doubles, walks, homeruns, RBI, on-base percentage, slugging, and OPS.

Mets Game 152: Loss to Braves

Braves 1 Mets 0

Was it surprising to anyone that less than 24 hours after scoring 12 runs on 20 hits, the Mets couldn’t cross the plate once with R.A. Dickey on the mound? Continue reading

Mets Game 151: Win Over Braves

Mets 12 Braves 2

In four innings against the Wild Card leading Braves, the Mets score double the amount of runs they mustered in four games against the previously fourth-place Nationals. Go figure.

A nice outburst, but it doesn’t really take the sting out of that four-game fold-up in Flushing. Continue reading

Tonight’s Mets Lineup vs. Braves

The Mets begin their starring role as spoilers in September with a three-game set against Atlanta. Here is the lineup the Mets will send to bat against Braves pitcher Derek Lowe:

Jose Reyes – SS
Angel Pagan – CF
David Wright – 3B
Lucas Duda – RF
Jason Bay – LF
Nick Evans – 1B
Josh Thole – C
Ruben Tejada – 2B
Chris Capuano – P

A bit of a lineup juggle, with recently hot Ruben Tejada moving down to the #8 spot to protect Josh Thole. The Menudo member that wasn’t is hitting .320 in his last 7 games, while Pagan is at .240 over the same span. However, Pagan expertly avoided having a ball drop on his foot in centerfield yesterday, so I suppose this is some kind of a reward for that grace under pressure. As a fan, am I allowed to “fold it up”, and if so, how does one execute such a thing?
